The Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Council has been named Regional Gawad KALASAG awardee as the “Best MDRRMC (1st class to 3rd class Municipality)” for 2017.
Mayor Nato, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Roderick ER Mina and LDRRMO Martin James Kenneth Sison received the plaque and cash prize which was awarded by Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Melchito M. Castro and La Union 2nd District Representative Sandra Y. Eriguel on November 29, 2017 at Hotel Ariana Bauang, La Union.
The Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan SAriling Galingang Kaligtasan) Search for DRRM Excellence and Humanitarian Assistance is the country’s recognition for DRRM Councils that implement disaster risk reduction and management programs that aim to protect communities with utmost efficiency and promote safer, adaptive and disaster resilient community. LGU-Villasis passed the standards and criteria through the collective effort of the local government unit led by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council under the LDRRMO Martin James Kenneth Sison.
In his acceptance speech, Mayor Nato expressed his gratitude to the Office of Civil Defense for the prestigious award for Villasis and proudly mentioned that the KALASAG Award is the second award he is receiving in behalf of the municipality within the span of only three days the first being the Seal of Good Local Governance Award which he received for the municipality last November 27 at the Manila Hotel saying, “When it rains, it pours.”.
Meanwhile, Mayor Nato remains steadfastly committed in creating systematic and strategic approaches to become more responsive in addressing disaster issues and attain synchronized action of all sectors to realizea safer, resilient and climate change adaptive municipality. As he always says, “Kayang-kaya kung Sama-Sama”.
