Ribbon Cutting & Gift Giving of Queen Aileen May-Miss Villasis 2008
Distance is not really a problem. Miss Aileen May Abrena, Miss Villasis 2008 came all the way from the United States, not only to spend the christmas holiday in Villasis but to personally grace and cut the ceremonial ribbon of the newly roofed Villasis Public Auditorium last December 22, 2008. The funding of the aforementioned project came from the proceeds of Villasis Town Fiesta 2008 where she reigned as Queen. This occasion was witnessed by the Municipal Officials and employees of the Local Government Unit.
On the same day at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, she distributed assorted gifts to two hundred (200) indigent children from the various barangays of the town. She was assisted by her mom Elaine, her grandma Caridad, her uncle Edgar and other relatives. This gift giving, Pamaskong Handog ng Abrena Family, para sa mga batang kapuspalad was witnessed by Mayor Nato S. Abrenica and his better half, Madam Dita, Mrs. Lilibeth VM Abrenica and Mrs. Haidee R. Suyat, the Municipal Social Welfare and Develoment Officer and Social Welfare Officer, respectively.
Long live Aileen May, Miss Villasis 2008. Your great help to the municipality will be instilled in the heart of every Villasinians. Indeed, Villasis is very lucky to have citizens here and abroad who are very generous and mindful of the welfare of their underpriviledge townmates.
The much awaited time, December 27, 2008, 7:00 p.m., came. Three (3) candidates, Arlyn Costales-Angeles, Juliana Salazar-Carambas and Thelma Espiritu-Corpus, vying for the most coveted title of Mrs. Villasis 2009, their families, relatives, friends and sponsors gathered at the Villasis Public Auditorium for the Villasis Town Fiesta 2009 Popularity Contest last canvassing.
From the initial result of the first canvassing held last October 31, 2008 posted on the board so with the paid advertisements of the candidates, Thelma Espiritu-Corpus was leading the race with P520,589.00 cash votes; second was Juliana Salazar-Carambas with P188,640.00 and Arlyn Costales-Angeles with P62,620.00.
There was more tension and excitement when there was a turn of events after the conduct of the benefit dance, selling of boxes. Juliana Salazar-Carambas led the race after her supporters readily captured the box (a sumptuous roasted pig) for P1,900,000.00. However, in the end, Thelma Espiritu-Corpus became victorious when she garnered a total cash votes of P4,313,693.75; Juliana Salazar-Carambas, 1st Runner-Up with P4,233,410.00 and Arlyn Costales-Angeles, 2nd Runner-Up with P261,820.00. Seeing for ourselves the results of the popularity contest, we can say that despite the recession fears and global economic crisis, the spirits of the Villasinians were uplifted.
