On March 12, 2017, the Philippine Military Academy had its graduation rites and one of the 167 graduates of the Salaknib Class 2017 is 2LT. Rolly Raras Oliveras Jr. who is from Brgy. Barangobong.
2LT. Oliveras Jr. is graduate with honors at the Don Ramon E Costales Memorial National High School last 2011 and a graduate of Puelay Elementary School last 2007.
2LT. Oliveras Jr. just graduated from High School when he entered the country’s leadoff military institution. He says that his family was economically challenged during those years wherein two of his brothers were getting their degrees in college so he thought of entering the Philippine Military Academy.
As he entered the academy, he mentioned that he had a tough time at first. “ Nahirapan ako nung una kasi yung mga kasabayan ko doon ay mga galing sa college, tapos homesick din at the same time” ( I had a hard time at first because all of my colleagues were college undergraduates and college graduates, homesick at the same time.) He faced and overcome many obstacles during his stay at the academy, but his mantra was very positive and said that “you just have to believe in yourself, never doubt yourself”.
After graduating from the academy, he is ready to face new challenges in life bringing all the lessons and experiences his mentors inculcated in him during the years of stay at the academy. Now, he will attend four-month training at Zambales together with the other graduates as a preparation of their journey being a Philippine Navy and defend the country’s territorial water.
